The iconic Joe's pizza! I have had this numerous times and every single time, it has not disappointed. It is the perfect simple NY cheese slice. The perfect sauce, cheese to sauce ratio, and crust.

Service is nice and quick and so is the pizza turnover. Ambience is your typical pizza spot. Very small space to eat inside. There's a few barstools on a counter by the window and outside standing tables.

      10/10 I do recommend

Maybe this is a hot take, but I don't understand the hype for Joe's based on my experience. It's a good slice of pizza, but I have gotten pizza of this caliber at many other places in NYC.

Cash only. $4 for a slice of cheese. This location is very small inside, with just a few chairs inside and tables for standing outside. The nice thing is that they go through the cheese and pepperoni pizzas fast enough from people buying single slices that they don't need to put them in the oven to reheat. You tell them what you want and they hand it to you, pay, and you're on your way.

My friend and I wanted to check out the famed Joe's Pizza while visiting NYC so we went on a Friday night after catching a broadway show (the full NYC experience lol). I had never heard of this place before, but my friend really wanted to try it, so we stood in a very long line (around an hour) for this pizza. I'm personally not a pizza fanatic, so I was a bit skeptical. The shop itself was tiny and people were squeezing pass each other in there.

My friend got two slices of the margherita, while I got two slices of the supreme pizza. Their pizza style is a very thin (like veryyyy thin) crust. It was good, but you can see all the oil and grease leaking out from the pizza slice, which was a lot, considering how thin the slice was. The slice was still piping hot, fresh from the oven. The topping for my supreme slice was delicious and I really enjoyed their tomato sauce. It wasn't your average tomato pizza sauce, but I couldn't distinguish what it was.

Do I think it's the best pizza? No. But it was still delicious.

Good pizza is everywhere in NYC (#1), but few places are more famous than Joe's, which has been a household name for years. Located in the heart of the West Village, Joe's faces stiff competition in one of the most pizza centric areas of Manhattan. However, they've held their own for awhile, enough for most tourists and locals to come in for a slice daily.

Like many pizza spots in the city, it's a tight squeeze. There are lines during all hours, but it moves quick thanks to how quick the guys behind the counter work. There are pictures of celebs adorning the walls and super limited seating. There are mini counters near the window, but much of it standing room. Peppers and parmesan shakers are in all corners and locals are blotting the pizza grease with their napkins.

Unless I'm feeling generous with a pie for the people, I'm usually all about the slices. Whether it's plain cheese, pepperoni, or their mozzarella slice, I appreciate the crunch crust, sauce ratio with tjuit's thin with just the right amount of sauce and cheese on a fairly thin and floppy slice. I don't utilize the seasoning as much as others, and the pizza is best when it's hot. I don't love their caprese or specialty pies as much and the Sicilian needs a tinge of work.

They are cash only and are open late (4am) daily. Compared to the rest of the NYC pizza scene, I'd place Joe's somewhere in the middle even if their reputation precedes them. They're still one of the more consistent pizzerias in the city and I am always game for a slice or three.

(#1) The *best* pizza however is in Brooklyn. Real talk.

It appears that there are 5 locations and all 5 locations seem to have good ratings. For me, this was average pizza. If I had brought a non-Jersey/NY friend to the city I would not choose this place to show off "the best that NY can offer". It definitely is a slice of NY style pizza and it is GOOD, but there is better. I had a plain slice and a sicilian slice. Sauce was a tad bit too sweet for me. Needed a little more salt/savory action going on.

Of course everyone in NY has heard of Joe's Pizza, so I was pretty excited to finally try the pizza here. I got a slice of the original cheese pizza as well as pepperoni. Both were tasty, and I especially enjoyed how crispy the slices were.

However, this wasn't my favorite slice of pizza within a 1-2 block radius. Also note this place is cash only.

The original Joe's Pizza where Peter Parker worked which was featured in the Spider-Man 2 film was on Bleecker Street, but once their lease was up. They moved just a few steps here on Carmine. (See my video on Instagram) I'm not really sure what the hype was all about, but I thought the pizza was basic. They only had one kind of pizza when I went which was the cheese, so I wasn't really that impressed. Service and Ambiance were just ok. It's not a fancy place, so I can't give it 5 stars, but it's cool that they are capitalizing their pizzas from appearing in the movie. It's now become a tourist landmark.
