This restaurant was so great! We were looking for a spot that had pretzel and traditional Austrian food and luckily stumbled into this restaurant.

The restaurant ambiance was like a pub but at the same time very calm (maybe due to the time we went at ). Also, it's greatly decorated and you might lose phone service when we go inside because we did, which is ok. Service here is absolutely amazing and the waiter was very nice and answered all our questions. He even explained how we should eat the boiled beef which was so sweet.

They have many options to choose from for everyone. Plenty of beers as well ;). If I visit, Vienna again, I will totally eat here !

      Enjoy ;) -IG: travelfoodie_ishy

We thoroughly enjoyed our prix fixe Christmas Eve dinner here. The service was very good and food was outstanding. The goose was a personal favorite.

We visited for a Christmas Eve dinner and very much enjoyed our time. The place is warm and cozy, with just enough formality in the uniform of staff, place settings, and menu. Everyone was pleasant and helpful and menus were also n English. We started our meal with the Beef Consume & Pancake, a staple of Austrian/Bavarian cuisine and this was possibly the best version we have ever experienced. The broth was super flavorful, dark and rich, and had no trace of fat or oil. The explosion of taste was the best-executed version of this traditional dish we had in all of Austria and Bavaria. Our dinners were two other Austrian classics (99% of menu is Austrian classics): Boiled Beef and Pork Knuckle. My wife very much enjoyed her pork, with the standout being the cabbage/kraut sauces combination that was very flavorful, popped with acid, and had chunks of bacon laced within the cabbage. The pork skin was crunchy and the meat fell apart. It was not the best Pork Knuckle of our time in Austria or Bavaria, but it was probably the 2nd best. The presentation itself made you want to dive in. My boiled beef was also good (although I was jealous of my wife's pork) with soft, tender beef, potato & bread stuffing, a marrow bone, and a delicious creamed spinach sauce/puree. If I came back I would not order it again, but it was a good meal. We were so stuffed that we could not eat dessert, but the menu included all of the stand-by classics. We would come here again just for the Beef Consume. This was a great choice for our Christmas Eve dinner.

      Best low-key spot in Vienna.

Best goulash in Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. Brown gravy, baby.

Giants bowls of Austrian beers can be found and drank at this establishment. F'n refreshing.

Not jacked up in the daytime, which suits me fine, as I'm a day-drinker.

Clean, organized, affable wait staff, multitudes of delicious Austrian fare.

      I'll be back.

      So will Prez Donnie.

      Freedom.

      The oldest restaurant in Vienna!
This is a fun beer hall, with typical Austrian fare: Wiener Schnitzel, goulash, spatzle, etc. Food is ok (we had way better strudel in many other places) and the service is rather surly.

It was our first night in Vienna and we did not know that 10% is the expected tip, so we just rounded the bill up and gave a €4 tip (which was 7%) and the waiter commented on it.

Still, worth going for the extensive choice of beers on tap, the authentic decor and the atmosphere. It's been around for over 400 years!

We loved the pork schnitzel and the soup with Seminole dumpling and the chocolate cake. The beer was also delicious!

We came here during a 3-week winter vacation in Europe, and it ended up being one of our favorite restaurants. My girlfriend had their veal Wiener schnitzel, I had their roasted veal liver with cooked cabbage, and we both had their goulash soup--and it was all fantastic. Their goose liver pate was also the best I've ever eaten, and it came in much larger portions than most restaurants offer.

Finally, the server (who I beleive was also the manager), did a wonderful job of ensuring we had everything we needed, answering questions, and generally making us feel welcome. We'll be back next time we're in Vienna.

Gosser being a great beer, we thought it would be a superb idea to see what the restaurant had to offer. Our service was not exactly excellent. We had intentions of eating here but after being ignored we decided to just have two rounds of beers. The ambiance was great minus the screaming child next to us. I can only speak to the beer and it tasted delicious.

Great. But damn it is smoking central. No air movement -no fan. Crimney Open a window. No music either. Which is a common theme in Vienna except for Uber- cabs - and strip clubs. But the beer was perfect. I sampled many. And the food delicious. I had beef with onions. Awesome!

This was one of my worst culinary experiences in Europe.
We had seen this restaurant while walking around the cathedral. We checked it out on yelp and it had a great rating. So why not have dinner right?

Well when we arrived we were told the place was closing in an hour, so we should take a seat in the hallway. First mistake. Second was even talking to the waiter. He came over and again said in a very deadpan face that they were closing in an hour and that he didn't speak any English and that we should order right away with out looking at a menu.
(I can understand wanting to close down the restaurant, I worked in food services when I was younger but this was beyond anything I have ever experienced)
We ordered the schnitzel and the cordon blue which were terrific. But as we were eatting another waiter dropped a pile of plates. So now we're scarfing down our dinner, listening to plates being swept into a trash can and thinking why didn't the waiter just say the kitchen is closed.

This waiter spoke perfect English when the bill came which puzzled us as earlier he had said he couldn't? But he had no problem taking our change and disappearing.
All in all easily one of the worst services I have experienced in Europe. There are plenty of better places to eat where you actually feel like a customer and not a bother, don't waste your time on this restaurant.
