Nata Lisboa

Having just gotten back from Lisbon, I was so thrilled to find Nata Lisboa in L'Eixample. I had never noticed the small corner cafe before, but with the promise of nata I had to check it out. The menu was actually far more diverse than I expected, with different drink + food combinations great for breakfast, lunch or a light snack.
I opted for a chai latte and two of the nata. The chai latte was made from a mix proudly displayed behind the counter, but I didn't think it was anything special. The nata arrived to the table slightly warm. While initially this seemed appealing, things went downhill a split second after my first bite. Instead of a semi-solid custard, I ended up with a goopy, powered sugar-dusted mess. Needless to say I was a bit hesitant when I bit into my second nata (yes, I tried my other one, no rest for the weary okay?). It was a bit better, but still a bit disappointing.
Still a nice place to stop in for a drink or light snack, but if you're looking for knockout nata, this might not be your best bet.

Don't go here! You'll buy a Nata, get hooked, and end up blowing off your friends and doing/eating any number of other things in order to come here and indulge on this amazing pastry from Portugal. I had these a few weeks later in Lisbon, I liked them better here! Awesome peeps run this shop!

We came upon this place by accident when we were looking for an inexpensive, casual place for some breakfast. We had their croissants, and they were so delicous that we had to get a second one. Their coffee was also terrific. The owner served us, and he was friendly and helpful. The lunch options on the menu looked really good, but we never made it back. We definitely hope to next time!
